Temperature Compensation - It's time is here

Temperature Compensation  -
It's time is here
Temperature variation is one of the most significant sources of gaging error.  As manufacturing tolerances get tighter and the margin for gaging error gets smaller, it becomes an issue that must be addressed.
Most materials expand as they heat up.  For every inch of steel, a 1°F increase causes expansion of approximately 6µ".  For brass and copper, the figure is 9µ", and for aluminum, 13µ".  If the objective of the inspection process is to determine a part's true size, its temperature must be known.  Based on the ISO's very first standard (ISO 1 issued in 1931) that temperature is automatically assumed to be 68°F (20°C).
But few inspection processes monitor, much less attempt to control, workpiece temperature.  Many quality managers assume that any thermally induced variation in the part will be matched by like variation in the gage and the master: everything will expand and contract at the same rate, and everything will work out just fine.
This is far from true.  Gage, master, and part—the three hardware "components" of a gaging system—may be of different materials, so the effects of thermal expansion will differ even if they're all at theTemp C.jpg same temperature.  And the components won't necessarily be the same temperature.  Parts that have recently come off a dry machining process may be several degrees warmer, and may remain so for hours.  Parts machined under coolant may be cooler.  The gage or the master might be sitting on a bench in direct sunlight, or under a heating or cooling vent.  Temperature stratification within a room may create temperature differences between components placed near the floor, and components placed on a high shelf.  The relative masses of the components may make a difference.  For example, an engine block may take longer to reach equilibrium with ambient temperature than a bore gage.  And in some instances, thermal variation may work in opposite directions for the gage and the workpiece, compounding rather than canceling the error.  For example, high temperatures will cause bore gage contacts to grow longer, which will naturally result in ID measurements that are smaller than actual.  On the other hand, the ID of a thin-walled part, like a bearing shell, will grow larger with higher temperatures.

Millimar Inductive Probes
The requirements for electrical length measuring instruments are almost as broad as their scope of application. Reliability, precision and simple operation are the major demands. Millimar bench amplifiers and column measuring instruments fulfill all these demands and requirements.  Millimar probes are the most influential components of a measurement process. Their characteristics determine the quality of the entire measurement. Depending upon the type of application Mahr Federal has the right probe for yourProbes.jpg requirements. For example, Millimar Inductive Probes are robust, versatile and provide high value for their cost while Millimar Incremental Probes are ideal for long range measurement applications becasue they provide high linearity over their entire measuring range.
  • Available for most common amplifier systems (Mahr, Mahr-Federal, Tesa, Marposs)
  • Wide product spectrum; measuring ranges from 1 to 10 mm plus models with a compressed air (pneumatic) lifter or with vacuum retraction
  • With rotary stroke bearings
  • High linearity over the total measuring range
  • Excellent electromagnetic shielding (EMC)
  • Most probes can be easily converted from axial to radial by mounting a slip on cap, included in the scope of supply.

Light Tool Supply

About Us

Michael Elson
President
Light Tool Supply

For as long as I can remember, I have been surrounded by tools. As a young boy I worked summers packing orders and unloading trucks at my father's tool and supply company. After graduating from college, I immediately went to work full-time for my father and have been in this industry ever since.  Over the years I have learned this business inside and out and have spent many hours using that knowledge to improve the mail order supply business. I have seen that business change drastically over the years. The most dramatic change is from a business based on the paper catalog to one based on products sold via the internet. Subsequently, after many years of experience, I decided to create my own company to do what I know best. Light Tool Supply is now quickly bringing tools to loyal customers at the best prices possible.  I encourage you to use our vast experience as a resource for all your tooling needs.  If you see something on our website that you do not feel is the best price, please feel free to email me directly at michael@lighttoolsupply.com.  I also would like you to email me or my staff with any manufacturer's Part# from our long list of vendors at the bottom of this page for a low price quote. Additionally, do not hesitate to contact Light Tool Supply with any of our competitors' part numbers. It would be my pleasure to cross reference those part numbers with ours and beat their prices! I realize there are many companies to choose from; I hope you will choose Light Tool Supply.

Thank you,
Michael Elson
President

Company Profile

Taiwan Rong Fu was founded in 1975 with a work-force of ten people turning out vises. By 1979 we were also producing 4-1/2" metal cutting band saw and milling/drilling machines for the domestic and overseas markets. Taiwan Rong Fu was rated number one in Taiwan in the export of band saws and milling and drilling machines.
In 1984 we cooperated with two large US makers to develop 7" x 12" and 8" x 14" bench-model metal cutting band saws. Over the next decade we achieved an enviable record of other firsts and breakthroughs. In the same year we initiated implementation of a fully-computerized production management system
By 1985 we had completely overhauled and upgraded our production facilities and received listing by UL of the United States for our products. In 1989 our computerized management system was extended to include all operations, and the following year we began preparation for ISO 9000 with training of all employees. We also invested in new production equipment for air tools.
In 1992 we began working with the Industrial Research Technology Institute to improve our manufacturing processes. Our certification for ISO 9002 was received in 1993, and over the next several years we concentrated on expanding production and gaining CE approval for all of our products and CSA and UL listing for a number of products.

In 1999 Taiwan Rong Fu successfully introduced our band saw and mill/drill products to the European market. During the following years we began OEM production of both items in cooperation with world well known European manufacturers.
Year 2000, we were certified for ISO 9001, same year with 921 earthquake. But with minor damage, we came back for shipping in one week.

Offical Launch of the Baleigh Industrial TN-250 tube notcher

TN-250 Tubing Notcher

This is the most revolutionary hole saw tube notcher on the market and is perfect for chassis, roll cages, and much more. The heart of this machine is the unique design of the self centering capture vise that allows the ability to clamp onto bent tubes in any direction. This is the only hole saw tubing notcher that is always centered left to right and up and down.
This coping machine is constructed of heavy steel plate to reduce vibration, uses a 1-1/4” Thompson® shaft that rides in a sealed needle bearing for longevity of the machine and hole saw. The TN-250 tube notchers vise has a powerful screw with a built in hand wheel that opens and closes the unique six radial clamping jaws. This totally unique design to Baileigh tubing notchers easily allows for securely clamping and notching on a bend or straight of tubing.
The TN-250 tube notcher can notch up to 2-1/2” OD and allows for steep angles as the hole saw can pivot up to 230 degrees making it the most versatile notching machine on the market. This tubing notcher can easily offset in seconds for off center notches and does not require crazy shims or spacers common on inferior models.
To further compliment the experience of this revolutionary tube notcher the Thompson® shaft has a replaceable hex insert for drill connection, that saves the main arbor shaft. A large degree plate is included with a very visible pointer for exact degree angles every time. This tubing notcher has a fully adjustable axis to accommodate almost any notch combination considering the pivot moves left to right up to 230 degrees, there are two slotted mounting rails for almost any position of the bearing block, and finally we have the easily adjusted position for up and down.
All in all, Baileigh’s TN-250 tubing notcher offers the most revolutionary design, quality construction and function of any other vise or table mounted hole saw tube notcher on the market for a reasonable investment. For further information on this notching machine please call a Baileigh representative.

Light Tool Supply in development to sell our products exclusively to Mexico and Latin America under
    http://www.lighttoolsupply.com.mx

We anticipate this website to be up and running around the same time as the launch of http://www.lighttoolsupply.com in about 8 weeks.

This new website will be purely in Spanish.  Currency will be in the Mexican Peso with the ability to also switch over to the U.S. Dollar.

Mexico and Latin America is a booming market that Light Tool Supply is going to go after aggressively in the upcoming year.

    Manufacturing in Mexico
Manufacturing in Mexico has never been easier than with Border Assembly Inc.’s shelter service program, client friendly and fine-tuned after decades of development. If you’re tired of dwindling profits due to overregulation, exorbitant worker’s comp, and burgeoning property taxes and lease rates, perhaps manufacturing in Mexico is worth taking the time to explore.
And if you decide manufacturing in Mexico is right for producing your products, we’re sure Tijuana offers the best logistical advantages, and Border Assembly’s shelter service can help you make the transition quickly, easily, and with minimal start-up costs.
Once up and going, you can expect to cut your labor costs by half or more. How would that impact your bottom line? Skilled, conscientious, and highly productive employees will build or assemble your product in Tijuana, which is the best location in Mexico and globally, for servicing United States and Pacific Rim markets.
In fact, Tijuana’s maquiladora industry is so successful, it has become the television-making capital of the world, and hundreds of other products, from fiber optics and silicon chips to sporting goods and toys, are produced there in a volume and quality that rivals any manufacturing center in the world.

Detroit 2010: Jeep Wrangler Islander and Mountain fill out the range — Autoblog

Few cars are as iconic as the Jeep Wrangler, a vehicle that can trace its heritage directly back to General Patton storming the Third Army up to Messina. Maybe a Porsche 911, maybe. Mini? Not really. Harley-Davidson is probably the closest, but they only have two wheels and aren't cars. The reason we're harping on this heritage angle is that after a twenty-year absence, Jeep's bringing back the Islander.

    The Fred V. Fowler Company

The Fred V. Fowler Company is globally recognized as one of today's leading suppliers of quality control and inspection equipment.

Founded in 1946, we have dedicated our 62 year history to supplying the most innovative measuring products possible.

    INNOVATION IN MEASURING

As industry moves more in the direction of computer-aided manufacturing, Fowler continues to introduce important new tools designed to lead the way in inspection and measuring. Familiar items—including calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gages and bore gages — have been redesigned and now feature state of the art electronics to ensure compatibility with the latest in computer integrated manufacturing and statistical process control (SPC).

    CUSTOMER FOCUSED

In order to reliably meet customer expectations, Fowler's technical sales team is in the field. We are customer focused and customer driven. "Downsized" American manufacturing is time poor and demand rich. Manufacturers increasingly rely on their key supply chain partners to make critical product decisions.

At Fowler, we are absolutely committed to providing our customers total support. What Fowler brings to a customer is a partnership in the ability to satisfy your requirements in terms of quality, cost and service.

    AFTER SALES SUPPORT

Using a team approach, we will demonstrate to your you that working harder with fewer people does not have to mean that quality is in any way comprimised...on the contrary, quality is the key to sustained growth in a downsized manufacturing environment.

Sales support should never start and stop with an introductory sales meeting. Fowler sales support means a different approach to our customers needs. We have direct field support, and a full staff of technical and knowlegable personnel ready to help you.

    PRODUCT SUPPORT

Your customers want it now: service support and stock availability are the name of the game. Well, as a supplier of instruments we back that up.

Fowler ships 95% of all orders every day. We have an extensive inventory and a fast and professional service department backed by the industry's best warranty program.

    QUALITY

Quality is our passion. Quality in management, quality in sales, service and support and most of all, quality in products sold.

Let's face it, ultimately you choose instrument providers based on what they can bring to the table. When you own Fowler products, you own value, solid experience, innovation, a get-it-done spirit and the best precision instruments in the world.

    HISTORY

The Fred V. Fowler Company incorporated in 1946, has grown nationwide and across North America to include

offices in Boston, Chicago and Ontario, Canada. Fowler is also now available in Mexico, with four regional locations. By exclusively distributing products manufactured by world leaders in measuring, Fowler has become a major force in the field of precision electronic tools.

    Dake INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH MACHINES

    INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH MACHINES
Dake offers a complete line of hydraulic presses, arbor presses, bench presses, tire presses, laboratory presses, drill presses, belt grinders, power hammer, horizontal band saws, vertical band saws, mitering band saws, cold saws, tube benders and tube notchers.

    EARLY PROSPERITY

Grand Haven, Michigan was prospering in 1887. The fishing and shipping industries were flourishing. Visitors came by rail and boat for the sandy beaches and to relax at the numerous elegant spas.

On January 7, 1887 the Dake Engine Company was founded by a group of ten local businessmen. A new invention, the double reciprocating, square piston steam engine recently patented by William F. Dake, had caught the interest of the principals of the lumber firm of Wyman and Cairns. It was the lumbering industry that brought prosperity to the region and by 1887 the forests were largely depleted to rebuild Chicago after the fire of 1871.

The Dake engine quickly gained worldwide acceptance and by 1893 was awarded a medal at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Because the engines were powered by steam and there was no danger of sparks, Dake engines were used in coal mines and for the extensive subway and railroad tunnel construction that was transforming the country at the beginning of the 20th century.

Perhaps it was Dake’s river front location and proximity to Great Lakes shipping, but soon marine equipment such as steam-powered steering gear, anchor windlasses, capstans, and hoists became a major portion of Dake’s business. In 1911, Dake gained a foundry in a merger with the Campbell foundry.

    WORLD WAR II

As the 1930s drew to a close, company management became aware that the original square piston steam engine could no longer support the company. The steam age was ending. A new era lie ahead.

The war gave Dake the surge of orders it needed to stay afloat and soon the company was operating at full steam again. New 50 and 100 hp air and steam engines were developed for the war effort. Dake manufactured more than 10,000 steam engines, steering gears, windlasses, and capstans for the Liberty ships, the cargo ships that were mass produced to replace merchant ships destroyed by the war.

    POST WAR GROWTH

At the end of the war, Dake purchased a line of arbor presses and hand-hydraulic presses. By the mid-1950s, the small line of presses had expanded to 170 models. A move to a new factory in 1957 gave Dake room and capacity to expand into larger custom-engineered hydraulic presses. Soon Dake was shipping 250 to 600 ton presses all over the world for a wide variety of manufacturing applications such as straightening props in shipyards, compression molding jet engine components, die tryout, steel rule die cutting floppy disks, and straightening steel bars and plates.

    NEW PRODUCT LINES

In 1985, Dake purchased the Johnson metal cutting band saw product line from Kysor International of Cadillac, Michigan. The new product line featured horizontal and vertical band saws. The next year, 1986, Dake also began selling circular cold saws. In 1988, Dake added mitering and fully automatic horizontal band saws. The Parma line of gravity feed vertical band saws was added in 1999.

    DAKE TODAY AND THE FUTURE

Dake was a pioneer on the web and participated in early test sites on the internet. Since then, Dake has made many new friends and kept up with old acquaintances on the Dake web site.

A whole new generation is learning about Dake by watching Dake presses and saws used regularly on such popular television shows as Orange County Choppers, The Great Biker Build-Off, Trucks, X-treme 4x4, Muscle Car, and Horse Power.

The heritage of the iconic Dake cast iron, steam engine lives on in the Dake products for the 21st century. Wherever people use their hands to work with metal, there is a need for a Dake product. The families at Dake, both past and present, appreciate the unique opportunity to work with the good people who use Dake products to write more chapters to the Dake story.
